How to pray for the hounds...

A few days ago I was asked to pray for the hunt at Middleton Gardens...Here is the prayer they gave me. Add to this the Lord's Prayer, 20 horses and 40 hounds (which I had to dodge as they tried to mark me) It was a blast, GOD IS GOOD.

The picture is not of me but of my St. Philip's predecessor, The Rev. Canon Cobb.

Blessing of Hounds

“Hear our humble prayer, O Lord, for all animals, especially those in whose companionship we find joy and help. We entreat for them mercy and pity and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion, tender hands and kindly words. Make us all to be true friends of animals and to share the blessing of the merciful.”

“Bless, O Lord, rider and horse and hounds that run in their running. Bless and shield these riders from danger of life and limb. May Thy Children who ride and Thy creatures that carry them come to the close of the day unhurt.”

“Bless those over whose lands we hunt and grant that no deed of ours may cause their owners hurt or trouble. Bless all creatures that partake in this hunt and grant that they may find their true destiny under God.”

“O God, Who sanctifies all things by Thy word, pour down Thy blessings on these Thy servants, their horses and their hounds. To all who shall take part in this hunt, grant protection of body and soul. Grant that the true spirit of sportsmanship may prevail in all we do this day,
Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen

“May the blessing of Almighty God, the Father,
and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Descend upon all of us and remain with us forever.”
Amen.

Blessing of Saint Hubert of Liege,
Patron of Sportsmen.
